Information for Schools and Education Groups

Robin Hill receives visits from over 11,000 school children each year on school trips and though it might be obvious that the park has lots of fun things to do, the attractions and gardens also link very well with Key Stages 1,2 and even 3 to help in their study within the curriculum.
The 3 major rides provide good material for numeracy, science - forces and senses, multi sensory experiences and time.
The new Tree House Centre provides a wealth of information about the native plants and animals that can be found here in our woodland and on the Island in general. This is ideal for nature projects and fact-finding work. Food chains and ecosystems are introduced at a basic level and interactive exhibits help enforce the learning aspect. Children are encouraged to go out into the woodland and explore the woodland for themselves and a new quiz sheet is available this year for teachers to down load.
Robin Hill is the best place on the Island, if not in England, to see Red Squirrels and this message is enforced in the Tree house centre and at Red Squirrel hot spots around the park.
Our weekly Red Squirrel safari, on a Thursdays at 2pm, is a great opportunity for school groups to get a free-guided nature tour of the park that highlights the many reasons, from a geographical and biological viewpoint, at why the Island has such an abundant Red Squirrel population.
Our new woodland garden guidebook now contains details of the parks
trees and shrubs. This can be used in conjunction with the numbered reference signs found within the parks garden and woodland areas. This is ideal for more nature-orientated fact-finding assignments.
The Wooden Maze might give orienteering skills as well as position direction. The Squirrel Tower and Tree-Top Trail help to develop co-ordination, science - force and reaction times.
The Children's Play Village, Forest Play area and Gypsy Camp show the difference in cultures, house construction and use of materials. Temple, Roman Villa site and Time machine ride would also help with the history elements.
History is now also covered in greater detail in our woodland garden areas. Each of our new gardens are linked to the Island’s history and culture, which is fully explained in our new woodland garden guidebook. Periods currently covered include Tudor, Victorian and Roman history. The books are available at a discounted rate of £1.20 each for school parties and teachers; please ask at admission desk on arrival.
